ChatGPT Plus vs Claude Pro vs Perplexity Pro

Last updated: 2026-07-25

ChatGPT Plus ($20/month, OpenAI) is the best all-rounder and has the widest tool ecosystem. Claude Pro ($20/month, Anthropic) is stronger on long documents and careful writing or coding. Perplexity Pro ($20/month, Perplexity AI) is a search product with citations rather than a general assistant. If you can buy only one, buy ChatGPT Plus.

Prices are the providers’ own list prices in USD, checked on 25 July 2026. Verify them on the provider’s pricing page before you buy — they change, and our page may lag.

Which one should you buy if you can only afford one?

Buy ChatGPT Plus (OpenAI). It covers the widest range of everyday tasks, and if you later find you spend most of your time on long-form writing or code, switching to Claude Pro (Anthropic) costs you nothing but a month.

Is Perplexity Pro a replacement for either?

No. Perplexity Pro (Perplexity AI) answers questions with links to sources, which makes it excellent for research and poor for drafting, brainstorming or coding. Treat it as a search engine upgrade rather than an assistant.

What about Kimi from Moonshot AI?

Kimi (Moonshot AI) is the cheapest of the four and handles very long Chinese and English documents well. Availability outside mainland China is inconsistent and some plans require a mainland phone number, so treat it as a second subscription rather than your only one.

Frequently asked

Can I pay for any of these with cryptocurrency?

Not directly — all three bill by card. You can pay with crypto indirectly by buying a prepaid card voucher with cryptocurrency and using it on the provider’s own checkout page.

Are the prices the same in every country?

The list price is set in USD for all three, but local taxes may be added at checkout and some regions see different currency conversions. The USD figure is what a voucher needs to cover.

Can I subscribe to two and cancel one later?

Yes. All three are monthly and cancellable, so buying a single month of two of them is a cheap way to decide which suits your work.
